Notes from a movie set

On set The Canyon, Williams AZ

I am posting from a movie set in Williams, AZ. A spur of the moment decision this week and here we are, on the set of Steve's first film The Canyon (some of you may remember he sold the screenplay last fall, his first script sale). After a ten second discussion starting with What if... and ending in Why not? we hopped in our Honda Fit and made a bee-line for Arizona, cooler packed with the standard celiac travel kit of rice cakes and peanut butter, a few bananas and apples. And a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. I also schlepped my rice cooker in true gypsy fashion (brown rice and red beans are cooking in the hotel room as we speak).

Today was the first day of the shoot. I was persuaded nudged by the producer Mark Williams to video some behind the scenes footage of the crew [truth is, I am introverted and clumsy I am sorry to tell you and was reluctant to get in too close, but Mark snuck up behind me and steered me over cables and into the action]. I was too nervous to set a white balance. Goddess only knows if any of the footage is viewable. But did I care?

In all honesty I was too busy drinking in the goose-bump inducing electric vibe of a film set, feeling chills flicker up my spine as we watched Steve's script come alive. The female lead is played by actress Yvonne Strahovski (cast before she snagged the role of Sarah Walker on the television series Chuck) who is not only beautiful, she is a smart, strong and capable actress. And Will Patton? Soulful, sly and poetic. It was pure shivering pleasure to watch him do his thespian thing as the grizzled guide Henry. I even got the chance to suggest a word of dialogue for him on set, which, I am humbled to tell you, he used. I was thrilled beyond belief.

So that's where I'm at. Crazy happy. Dead on my feet. I leave you with a snapshot of the director, Richard Harrah, Steve, and producer Mark Williams. Yeah, I know. How lucky can a goddess get?

It's coming to 'life' so to speak! Congrats to your darling one on the start of filming - you are certainly a proud GF Goddess, and with reason.

Life keeps blessing us, if we let it.

I remember when our teen was shooting a video. It took 6 long hours of him for a 2 minute segment. Ugh!
We were both burnt out for the experience. But I'm glad that we participated.

Wow! I'm from Arizona--now in Colorado. Wave hello to Flagstaff as you make your way back. If you find yourself needing any items as you head out of town, take the main exit into Flagstaff (Butler Ave), and head into town. Go past the Target plaza, around the bend a bit, and you'll find New Frontiers--a natural/organic markwet. Great stuff! On your way back to the freeway, I highly recommend Campus Coffee Bean for a cup of java. =)

Happy, safe travels, and enjoy the movie life!!

How exciting and fun for you! Congratulations to your husband on this accomplishment. What's the movie about, by the way?

Yay! It happened! ;) I can't wait to see the credits as the name Gluten Free Goddess floats by. Shauna got on TV, and now you made it to the movie screen! Whoa.

Congrats to Steve! I really related to your bringing along your rice cooker "in true gypsy fashion." I actually laughed out loud because I always bring a few pounds of rice and dried beans with me, along with the cooker, on trips. This is the first time I've read your blog, and being a food allergy sufferer for much of my life I can relate to a lot of the difficulties. However, people like us have learned to adapt and I feel it has forced me over the years to become a very creative and imaginative cook. Keep up the yummy recipes when you have time - they are lovely :)

Thanks to everyone who commented and left *congrats* on Steve's success.

Being on the set was amazing. The cast and crew are fabulous, not to mention, the producers, director - everyone involved is kick-ass.

The movie is titled The Canyon.

It will be released sometime in 2008.

We are joining up with the film crew again next week - traveling to Utah [waving to Kayln!].

As corny as it sounds, this has been has a dream come true for both of us.

Thanks again!

xoxo

If you pass through N.AZ again, Flagstaff and Sedona both have Picazzo's pizza, which offers GF pizza, breadsticks, chicken wings, cookies and gooey hot brownies!

Darn! Sorry I missed Picazzo's in Flagstaff. I thought there was one only in Sedona.

Next time! Thanx.
